(Not necessarily right now, because house hackers inherently want to save money so they're not going to drop $200k on an ADU, but maybe in the future when Chaffee Park might have a collection of homes with carriage houses out back that future house hackers can buy.)But the bigger issue remains the exorbitant cost of building an ADU.

The city also used the opportunity to clarify that accessory dwelling units -- carriage house, basement apartment, etc -- are not legal dwelling units and can't be rented out at all unless they're zoned as separate units.

I’ve been working with ADU4U, Vern Robinson and Carriage Homes on bids for an ADU in unincorporated Jeffco- they’re all coming in $300+ square feet- so looking at 8-9 year recoup on costs- Just not sure we’re ready to be Trail Blazers and there’s no comps of course- so we’ve switched gears - Looking at creating an exterior entryway to our basement, basically attached ADU, along with a major remodel in our home.

We have a beautiful 3,300 sq ft Carriage House barn that is very underutilized.
