My company will repair all smaller holes with one coat of patch, but homeowner is responsible for second coat, sanding and painting

It’s more a long-term problem, over years, the pipes get coated in crud.

Using the thicker pad will make even cheap carpets "feel" muuuch nicer to feet and feel.

If it is LVP or some sort of non solid wood chances are sanding will remove the top coat of the hardwood and while removing the burns would be harder to refinish but totally possible.
