I am questioning because you can rent a 2bd 2ba in Brooklyn ny for $2000 and the commute is 45min to Manhatten.

As well as coffee shops like Bottoms Up Coffee are moving in and small microbreweries like brew dog and land grant.As for Cleveland, I would recommend being in areas on the West Side of Cleveland like West Blvd, Cudell, Old Brooklyn, Clark Fulton, Edgewater, Jefferson, and Brooklyn Centre.

Agree with @Abel Curiel, New York City is a tricky spot for "house hacking", but queens, brooklyn, and even some parts of Long Island would be good places to start  

I feel BROOKLYN is way overpriced at the moment.
