If you are not a subscriber to the Saint Louis Business Journal, go to the local library and review the various categories and/or the 'Book of lists' published by the Journal. 

Spend some time looking at the map to understand the geography, read articles from RE sections of the Inquirer and Business Journal, go to  some Meetups  - that promise some content (there are some that do not really have much content).

I was wondering if anyone knew of good online resources or message boards so I could ask some generic user questions (Ex. can you import a journal entry from excel into Yardi) and best-use practices.

Boise is starting to get a bit frothy due to it's recent highlights in the Wall Street Journal (lots of folks looking for yield out there), but you can still get a great deal near Micron or Downtown near BSU if you aren't afraid to rent to students!
