I do these myself in my properties, and I replace all fiberglass tubs and surrounds with porcelain-on-steel tubs with tile surrounds.

The paint got so bad that we just starting pealing it off in the inside of the tub just to discover that the porcelain underneath only had some chips that could've been filled in.

I got some 12x12 slate-look porcelain tiles on sale at local building supply for last one. 

Porcelain tiles will be very durable, last a long time and if one or a few get cracked, easily replaced with a good tile installer.

Porcelain tiles work for me.  

I.E. as long as it's gloss white 3x6 porcelain subway tile with dark grout, you don't care if they buy it from Laticrete or Mapei.

Go larger with the tile and I recommend porcelain. 

Then they go down stairs and I go to the bathroom and sit on the porcelain throne reading.

The lower level has a room with a porcelain tile floor I thought could be restored with a good cleaning as it is in good shape.
