Instead, they are added to the purchase price of the home to determine its tax basis.Points (discount points, loan origination fees) has to amortized over the term of the loan.Any work (both repairs and improvement) you do before placing the unit for service has to be added to basis.So, it would beneficial to wait until you place it in service to make additional repairs.

At the end of the day, renting means that you don't actually own anything, and while having a house will probably mean that you'll have to be paying a big down payment, if you can afford that, you'll be adding a huge asset to your name.
