We were told because we work another job and that had income that exceeded $150,000, we can't deduct any expenses (all my travel, complete repainting, upgrade TVs, replace washer etc for our short term rental) are not reportable on our taxes.

I'd much rather have to repaint some walls than to deal with urine stains on carpet/hardwood, chewed baseboard and cabinets, and clawed doors and walls.

It was awful, but we tore out the drywall in one bathroom and repainted the entire interior including the ceilings in oil based paints, which take about 2-3 days to dry.

It is not unreasonable to repaint cabinet interiors...if they are old, dark, cabinets with water and other stains and repairs on the interior.
