Sell it.Take the 240k and do something else, it’s not worth the hassle, clearly no one in the family wants to deal with this bloke and he’s nothing more than a pain in the *** tenant the new owner will evict in due course- there is a time to be charitable with family but it sounds like that time is long past.

Put him on a waiting list and contact in a few days if you really are feeling charitable.

If you want to be charitable, I recommend renting your units at market rate and then donating the money to people that really need assistance and that will appreciate your generosity.

Hence, for dealing with people, how about going to the Salvation Army, or any near-by charitable out-reach, & volunteering to do whatever they may need done.

Furthermore, the effects of progressive taxation dwarf the effects of charitable giving.

If they had adequate reserves accumulated, I would still not refer to this as fiscally responsible but possibly charitable. 

Retirement accounts (Solo (k) if you're self employed), HSAs, rack up some business expenses, charitable giving, or a donor advised fund.

However, I have asked and few charitable types have kicked me back something, I don't know how they accounted for it though.
