I have bought gifts and dinners, mini vacation  for a weekend and such in some cases.

Speaking of Newport, had dinner around the area at Fashion Island, saw a $300k+ car!

We’ve house-hacked previously and rent out one of our homes in Canada; however, we find the nearby Michigan market to be a lot more BRRRR friendly and would like to purchase at least 10 cash flowing properties there in the next five years.In the past few months we’ve totally immersed ourselves in real estate investment education: podcasts during our commutes, articles on breaks, discussions at dinner, books during the evenings, and falling asleep to HGTV home reno shows.

My guess is they don't have money to pay for dinner, much less pay you for rent and deposit. 

I have had tenants at the poverty level that have cable, Xbox, cell phones, brand name clothes and eat out dinner five days a week.

They can txt message like crazy but can't hold an interesting conversation over dinner either :my oh my:

I got my reality check at dinner one night.  

Who needs that kind of awkwardness at Thanksgiving dinner...  :-) Without getting into details, let's just say we run a tight ship with regard to capital preservation.

The reality was that we were stuck in our offices (1) cancelling dinner dates, (2) rescheduling anniversary dinners, (3) sleeping in our offices, or (4) getting fatter, balder, and more depressed because you are working around-the-clock to check a 100 page document for misplaced modifiers or subject-verb disagreements. 

Do you tell your friend how good the dinner she made was even if you didn't really like it?
