I agree with some of the other comments that vacationers choose Airbnb/VRBO over hotels because they're looking for an authentic, local experience or something unique... at minimum something beyond a pedestrian hotel room with outdated coffee maker and an ironing board hanging in the closet.

They said they add a note in their listing recommending vacationers to purchase travel insurance for just reasons like this.When someone wants to cancel during the no refund time frame, the first thing they ask is did you purchase the recommended travel insurance?

Forget your own consequences briefly and consider the guests:  Cancel the conflicting reservations asap so that vacationers have an opportunity to book elsewhere.

It sounds as though Skift's research found that roughly 60% of the people surveyed said that gas prices are going to impact their vacation plans & of that 60% there is roughly 1/3 also said that it will greatly impact their decision on vacation plans.It goes into saying that rural areas & small "quaint" type towns will be the biggest benefactor as vacationers are looking for closer, drivable vacation spots.
