Not sure what is easier overall (cleaning versus buying and swapping) but I am fairly sure that cleanable is a little better for the environment and slightly cheaper (the filters are pretty cheap so we are probably on the order of $1 to $2 a month - negligible in the scheme of things).Good luck

For the bathroom, for instance, repainting, re-grouting the shower walls, installing new shower head, swapping out vanity, swapping out toilet, and installing new faucets would completely transform the space and isn't too difficult to do on your own.

Add some updated (but cheap) exterior lights and interior LED lights (either recessed or swap out bulbs)If bedrooms only have 1 dome light, could consider adding a nice big fan/light combo.
