im in Orange County CA and there is a huge market here for room by room rentals here. i've been doing this for quite some time (over a decade now), and it certainly has its pro's and cons. my advice if you go about this is make sure you do proper vetting before moving someone in... not only for financials/ credit-worthiness, but also for temperament and expectations in a co-living space. we ask a lot of questions like "how do you handle conflict?"

Self-proclaimed Section 8 guru's online claim to do the latter and then find Property Managers after they purchase the property in whatever state, but I don't know how real that is.I own quite a few section 8 rentals myself!

I think you're doing quite well given the location. 

What @Anna Sagatelova said about Cleveland properties is also true in Akron. 90% of the housing stock in the city of Akron was built before 1970 and there are quite a number of really fine A++ older homes especially in west Akron.

It's not quite as easy as renting out two sides of a duplex, but with the right marketing and management you could rent out the extra unit to supplement the mortgage payment. 

Think about what everyone else is doing.For reasons that I can’t quite grasp, someone decided that people who want to, need to, or have to sell their houses are the ideal audience to target.

So all in all I’m not quite sure what my price point is or how to figure it out yet.

Chris if one reads the thread were OP posted about 38 k reno on a apartment unit and others asked questions etc etc.. the OP got quite defensive and rude frankly..

I've lived and worked in China and at one time had quite a few Chinese nationals as investor clients in my Florida based firm. 

Eventually I just quit the program.
