We do have something like that over here in the UK, but not sure about the US.

Being an immigrant here at Toronto, I’m not aware of many storage spaces.

As a self-employed immigrant, I am in the same boat as high school students and college grads - no credit history and no 2 years worth of tax returns.

We did some fix and flips, pre-foreclosures, a probate, a short sale, and rentals while posted in the US a number of years ago, and bought 2 houses to live-and-improve while in the UK.

I love MF properties that appeal to college students, hopefully you can find something close enough to the UK campus to get your feet wet on.

I asked for tax returns, and she said the boyfriend has immigration issues and doesn't pay taxes.

These are first generation immigrants in their 50's who understand a little and speak even less english.

Other northeast cities developed more in the late 1800s and early 1900s with large influxes of immigrant populations, and a lot of multifamily houses were built then, or converted to multifamily use then to support that new population.  

We got started in a similar way, buying our first and last houses in the UK, and a passel of them in-between.
