I would make sure that whoever you call out to fix a backed up line writes the source of the blockage on the invoice if they are able to determine what caused it.

I'd give them a deadline to fix it, if they can't meet that then have someone do it professionally and deduct it from their final payment and send over the invoice.

As long as it is truly placed in service, then yes you are able to expense some repairs rather than capitalizing them.Under the de minimis rule, it is "per item per invoice", so that means that as long as your "projects" are not grouped together as one item on an invoice you are able to expense them.

@Michael Plaks to clarify when you say the driveway repair can be written off immediately: are you referring to only the $1800 repair option, or would it also apply to the $2800 option if the invoice items are each below $2500 (e.g. separating out materials, labor, etc.)?
