while down the road (once you own a number of properties and have considerable equity) it maybe worthwhile to look at an LLC, a lot of people when just starting out simply purchase a good umbrella policy for additional coverage and protection.

For each of our portfolio rentals, we have a hazard policy for each (DP-3) and we have ONE umbrella liability policy for the LLC.

Unfortunately you won't know that at the time of purchase, but if your rates increase next year, you will know what type of company you are dealing with--i suspect the kind of company that won't be there when you need them Fwiw, we use state farm for our home, umbrella, and all rentals.
