General rule of thumb is "toddler and idiot proof," and a toddler or idiot could easily electrocute themselves or fall off where there aren't handrails, so that needs to be fixed. 

If not, do you manually service/clean your boilers annually to avoid these issues in the fall and manually call the plumber on case-by-case basis?

A middle-aged man can make sound financial decisions, live a financially responsible life, and get hit with a catastrophe that crushes him.I just don't believe that the majority of bankruptcies fall into that category.

FHA, Fannie, Freddie, VA, even Jumbo all fall under the residential umbrella.

So even with a big economic downturn, I have a hard time imaging that prices will fall, at least for properties under the median.So if you got a few million bucks in RE out in FL or NJ, do you hang on it, or do you start to cash out now and go buy something in the Midwest or TX where prices are flat... and way less likely to tank hard...?

@Chris PurcellYou're setting yourself up for a painful fall if you plan on doing this yourself now.

That's probably the  most common reason why financing on primary loans in condos fall apart.
