I have actually seen homes loose 90% of value in 1 hour before, because city council issued a proposal to build a road thru there front yards (seriously, like 5' from there front doors).

Well known developers have connections and make things happen that are often thought impossible.We won a battle with the City a few years ago that ended up at the City Council regarding a variance and it was very much who you knew and what they wanted.

How Binghamton (and other towns like it) mishandled the situation out of desperation in NY, where taxes aren't really regulated from what I've learned, is the city/county councils or the townspeople (not sure which or if it's a combination) decided to raise taxes through the roof to try and stop the bleeding.Just for grins - well, I shouldn't say grin, as it's really sad - but for edification purposes - take a look at what you can buy in Binghamton for the money.
