One tenant is planning to move (port) his section 8 voucher to Dallas and use it to rent my 1/2 duplex. - Can I charge him a deposit to hold until all the paperwork is transferred successfully?

@Joseph S. the tenant must qualify with section 8 and receive approval and a voucher of sorts.

They just want a clean place, relatively safe, access to freeways, and mall/shopping center.Also, I'm starting to notice because of how high Section 8 Vouchers are becoming, these people who are market rate are getting squeezed out of housing.  

It is in the best interest of the administrator of the Section 8 program, most likely a Housing Authority, to attract good landlords and work with them, so landlords will be more willing to accept S8 housing vouchers.

You can have a great Sect. 8 tenant w/ a KC MO voucher and have a great experience, and you can have a bad Sect. 8 tenant w/ a Liberty, MO voucher and have a terrible experience! 

You may want to contact your Housing Authority rep and ask them what’s the max rent for a 2-Bedroom voucher in your County/ZIP code.

This program provides case managers and funds, vouchers, to get Vets set up and into homes.
