I'm a musician, I play a huge pipe organ at a church and direct the choir.

Being a musician is unlikely to produce any great income.

Asheville attracts some big-name musicians and comedians from time to time, but probably not as much as Charlotte.  

I, idealistically and very mistakenly, "saw" myself as a soloist, chamber musician, or at the very least principle in a A Class orchestra, doing what I love, and making a good living to boot...The notion that I couldn't get paid enough to have a "comfortable life" never entered my consciousness.

I am now a Realtor and help my musician friends (and others) buy properties as well.
