Again, going back to the most recent real life example of my friends mentioned above, they had a large emergency fund, simply because they didn't have a clear handle on ALL of their expenses, including the 'unplanned' ones like car repairs (you know they will happen, so plan for it!).

If you have to provide one or more of them, I would cap their expense in the lease for each month that will save you from any high or unplanned expenses.
