Truth be told, I think the 2008+ melt down has worked a sea change in the psyche of this country regarding home ownership no longer being the Holy Grail.  

Facility maintenance- it is winter where we are at, thus Snow removal and Ice or salt melt. 

For example, if you take delivery of a gold contract, they will generally send it to a bank and you will highly discouraged to take it out, mainly because gold is so easily manipulated (Gold bars can be melted down and you can put some type of steel in the centre).

Other issues include - plumbing piping and electrical wires can melt, there can be structural damage, water damage from putting the fire out, etc.

@Bryan L. we tore out the most damage sheet rock and plaster on the first floor but the upstairs is cleaning up nicely. found some melted wires where we did not expect them and are still working on it.

In the winter the snow melting off the roof would run into the gutter and probably freeze on contact with the filter material.

Get a west Facing Home (if you get snow) that way your driveway snow and ice melts (other people on our street have it freeze!

Geneva is indeed a melting pot, I am sure the socio-economic challenges you face in Lyons are not too dissimilar to Geneva.

Hopefully with my mail outs and the sellers seeing the picture 4 times will have "melted the butter" a bit
