If we are using just Rock, we would use 3 inches of 3 inch rock or Crushed concrete "Clean" with no filler for the BASE.

-Thickness 4 inches concrete- crushed concrete or grit substrate, compacted 4 inches-PSI 2,500; with 3,000 recommended.

Is 54 inches all you have available for the kitchen?

For example, my Converted Multi Family 2 Bed unit has about 900sqft of living space, in unit washer/dryer, private deck, access to backyard, walk in closet, bedroom office suite, enormous granite kitchen island, 42 inch cabinets, and basement storage - rents for 1400/M.

There might be damage to a farmer's crop or fields, and dirt/sandy roads in some areas, but the residential property damage is usually limited to a few inches of water and mud in a few houses caused by flash flooding in random locations, or bad roofs during a heavy rain.

It will expand as it cures and actually cause the area above to rise a little, maybe a few inches...but that might be enough.

Unfortunately, none of the hall closets are deep enough (16-18 inches deep at most) - and not enough room in the hall to take up any more space. 

I grew up in CH so that's just the area I know best.
