I have an old Jim Walters home on the River across from the Zoo where my neighbors have built three story homes on the water.

We have little (2/1, but <600’) STRs <100’ from the beach and larger STRs (3/3, >1300’) about 1 mile from the beach (but closer to zoo, sea world, downtown, and airport than the beach units).

I paid 36K for the property and 5K for the guys fee so it was a profitable outcome all round :-).So assuming most cities are the asme my advice would be to find out who runs the courthouse steps and see if you can get into their circle and establish who's who in the zoo.

We currently invest in rental properties in our home state of Wisconsin but are looking into possibly purchasing a 1-bedroom or studio condo in Lincoln Park in Chicago, right near the zoo (with a great zoo view and bit of a lake view), with the intent of trying out AirBnB and other short term rental sites for the first 6 months-year of owning the property due to it's location.
