It is already a lovely place to live and recent improvements mean that it's going to become cost-prohibitive to buy-&-hold there much longer.  

To my knowledge, the islands up there are quite remote but are also quite a lovely place to live.

I live in Monterey County and besides the massive forest fires, mud slides that literally wipe out entire sections of highway and decimate whole communities, and of course the occasional earthquake, it's a lovely place to live.
