You could buy a wyze camera from Amazon for $26 bucks, stick it to the exterior wall assuming you have electricity and wifi, and then you get a 13 second clip anytime there's motion at the doorway.

Offering amenities that cater to older veterans, such as no-step entries, wider doorways, and emergency call buttons, could be advantageous.
