Tenant had bf living with them I made bf sign lease amendment to be on lease. 

Is there legal recourse for me to now collect the required security deposit from the tenant even though he is in place (his lease does not expire until 7/2025), can i do a lease amendment requiring payment?

You can try to make it part of the inspection amendment, that's the last time you have some negotiation power.

After the lease is signed, you can open the security deposit account and then provide the tenant with a formal notice that includes the account number, bank details, and interest rate.This notice can be a simple letter or email, which should meet NJ’s requirements without needing to amend the lease or have the tenant sign it again.
