SSA allows me to earn up to $600 additional per month, and anything beyond that is deducted from my benefits...and while some might consider holding on to that limitation not the best solution, it *is* necessary because jobs and finances can come and go, but my illness isn't going away, and will only be antagonized by the stress of worrying about being homeless.

You just have more crime there than other residential neighborhoods because you've got all the bars (alcohol, drunken fights) and a larger percentage of the homeless population which represents a decent portion of the violent crime there.See: Who is to blame for ‘aggressive behavior’ by homeless people downtown?

I will say that we lease to Section 8, VA, Homeless Alliance, etc and we have a ton of success with it.

I think I agree in part with what you're saying...that the activists and city council are connecting housing and homelessness to a degree that isn't correct.

A college education has its advantages, but it also has its limitations because of the way many degree programs are taught and the way traditional employers treat back-to-school education programs (the more job-related courses you take in your field, the more raises you are supposed to get).When the Cold War ended and President Bush declared a "peace dividend" in the early 1990s, homeless shelters in Silicon Valley reported some of their clientele had advanced degrees (many tech firms are in the aerospace-defense business).
