My advice from someone who travels for a living and rents vrbos is to find a great location, and check and double check city and HOA regulations pertaining to vacation rentals.

I have a question about Real Estate Professional status as it pertains to taxes.

You would need to set your properties up as a Fixed Asset in your Chart of Accounts as well as in the Class feature of QuickBooks as a class.You will list all expenses pertaining to each property  as a sub account called WIP (Work in Progress)  of the property in the fixed asset account.  

I will agree that those on section 8 probably do since they could careless about anything in life pertaining to personal and social responsibilities and standards.

Avoid any back-and-forth about who said what, emotional arguments, or rabbit trails that don't pertain to the case.

Forgive me I am still new and learning but when you say I will be "committing to raising my tax bill" what specifically does that pertain to?

Work pertaining to the house itself will be split by a percentage based on occupied space, being deductible or depreciable based on whether it is a repair or improvement respectively. 

It might be good to review any clauses in your lease pertaining to repairs for the future.
