See Uniform Capitalization Rules earlier.The costs you can choose to deduct or to capitalize include the following.Carrying charges, such as interest and taxes, that you pay to own property, except carrying charges that must be capitalized under the uniform capitalization rules;So this would seem to support either position of capitalizing or expensing interest and taxes and there's no need to really bring the $5000 Business Startup Expense issue into it.All of this just supports the overall concept that taxes in general and real estate taxes in particular are a topic where there is rarely a definitive answer that can be a cookie cutter approach to every situation.
