The local water/power company had a program to install Nest thermostats for free (also included servicing the HVAC, free Freon, filters, etc).

I have done well over the years, and have a nice nest egg for my grandchildren.

What made this job even more fun were the hornets that built a nest in the holes and attacked me while holding tools balanced on a ladder 25 feet in the air... 

The next time I will be in OH will be nest week and would love to look at what is available.

I am 40 years old, and spent most of my life being a single mother of 5 children and struggled my way through college graduating at age 35 with honors. 3 of my 5 children have left the nest in the last 2 years, and I'm down to two at home; 9 and 13 years old.

you've found yourself in a somewhat of a dilemna in that you're middle-aged and find yourself with very little nest egg.

I have been a stay at home Mom for over the past 20 years and now want to dig in and really help my hubby out financially to get us retired ASAP (we are LOVING the empty nest :). 

To start with we are trying to teach him investment discipline, putting away 10% of his weekly earning into some kind of savings plan before he spends any of the earnings.I have showed him how REI works, and we did a few examples of how purchasing a duplex as his 1st home can lower his cost of living dramatically.I have also showed him how to create a monthly budget and track his expenses in order to help him understand where his money is going.But in the short term what kind of investments should I be showing him to help build his nest egg towards the purchase of his first property.
