As I gathered from the responses, everyone has their own take on the situation,  and it's interesting to me to see the different variations on what one would accept, tolerate, handle, etc. 

Perhaps your fiance, when contacted by the prospective landlord, could give a variation of this old job reference line: "You would be lucky to have this man work for you."

Typical price variation, average or median, will carry an error margin around 10%.

Even though I firmly believe this is all vastly overblown especially compared against past flu variations in the last two decades, it is hard to ignore the human element and the fact that some people are legitimately scared right now.

Sure, there's some variation, but the average strategy produces about the same result across almost the whole US since there are so many investors hunting outperforming markets - they tend to revert to the mean.

since you're from here you know there are wide variations both between and even within neighborhoods.i totally get that LA proper is too expensive... i just don't think OOS in the midwest is the panacea it's been made out to be, especially with interest rates where they are.
