We jumped into the brand new Tesla Model S, which we splurged for this year (amazing!)

The point is, if you are purchasing groceries and food with thought given first to what you need, and what is healthy, and not splurging on ridiculous items, you are doing just fine.

You're not the norm; you are the exception, and we've seen this behavior more times than we can count to say with full confidence that most people who splurge on luxuries while muttering that they're behind on rent fall into this category. 

What are some inexpensive things you've done and where do you splurge? 

I splurge to keep my home at 70 when I’m home and awake because my body runs cold all the time.

Another thing that will help is not splurging your cash-flow income on holidays and cars, but re-investing in your next bargain (but I sense that I am preaching to the choir?)...

While the bank was more than happy for me to splurge tens of millions of dollars in countries like Mexico, Colombia, Brazil or Uruguay, my bosses didn't even allow me to utter the name "Peru" during the sessions of our credit committee, as they were afraid it'd undermine our credibility.

So, instead of splurging on big upgrades like that use your renovation budget to replace the fixtures and the toilet, which will provide the highest yield for minimal cost.Curb Appeal.

We definitely splurged on stuff we didn't need (barn doors in Bedroom, shelving, brand new appliances, and building the kitchen table...but we wanted to add a more personal touch since we knew we'd be living here for the next year. 

While I think there needs to be some balance between enjoying your life along the way and planning for the future, just remember what you're giving up each time you opt to splurge on something now.As for rentals, I agree with Matt, Ben, and the other posts.
