Everybody always has a story about one that happened but when pressed for actual details it's always I heard from someone who heard from someone...Equity stripping is completely legal; perhaps you are thinking of equity skimming which is fraudulent.Stripping equity is simply having enough loans on a property that no equity exists.

Additionally, some of the securitized Non-Agency RMBS that are coming to market have much higher lending standards than they did 8 years ago, due to most of the large banks maintaining higher underwriting standards, because they don't want the bad press of a taxpayer funded backstop. 

There is alot of difference in cheap cabinets and upgraded to get away from press wood and get real  plywood/wood boxes and drawers.
