You could also do concrete pilings and set on the corners, but I prefer to do the rock.Don't set straight on the ground or your wood floors will rot out and your road will work its way above the door opening.If you do on Asphalt, get some 1/2 inch or thicker  1 ft x 1 ft metal plates to put the feet on.

Turns out if you line up 24oc studs with loads from above in an engineered design, and make up for wall flex with thicker drywall, you can build a house the engineer says is as strong as 16OC with less wood.

I started rehabbing (removed trim around windows and base boards in living/dining room because they had been sprayed with texture, kitchen cabinets being torn out, doors taken off, walls were being skim coated, etc.), so with the exception of the loft area where my bedroom is, the place was a total mess.
