I have helped a great deal of clients succesfully pull off variations of the house-hacking strategy, so I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.  

I personally like to keep my assets involved with a variation of markets that I'm familiar with.

Just be careful when you get into link building, building too many links too fast and not using enough keyword variation can hurt your rankings.
