I'd like to source my own fixtures (vintage/ salvaged/ thrifted) and do some of the work myself/ w friends who are handy.  

The floor tile in our bathroom is bone and white mosaic tile,(wall tile and tub surround is basic builder 4 x 4's in "bone")  so I am trying to do a "bone and white" color scheme with a white vanity and adding white beadboard wainscoting and chair rail; I figure I would try to turn "dated" into "vintage beach cottage" style, ha, ha! 

In my market here in the Chicago suburbs, there are a lot of "vintage" units so using a nice greige paint and some modern flooring can go a long way.

These homes are like vintage automobiles, you restore them to their original state to multiple their value. 

I doubt it could be built for much less than that as it is a 1950's vintage brick building. 

my legal record is squeaky clean. the real answer to why i don't get section 8 is probably because i'm very disorganized and erroneously thought it was for people who are officially disabled. i will look into it some more, thanks. another layer to this is that i'm hoping to live in a place where i can work on the vintage furniture that i sell online which rules out public housing and i think that section 8 would add to the reasons that landlords don't usher me in.
