This is just the normal operating costs, never mind the big things that come up occasionally with capex like when you have to replace a major component (furnace, water heater, sewer line, driveway, steps, deck, windows, roof, doors, siding, landscaping, etc,) and it costs $10-20k.

Or, put in another way, we get more interest in us renting a property and giving it back to the owner as opposed to a landlord doing all the management and then asking us to occasionally do maintenance on the property.

.- Flexibility: If you want to use the property yourself occasionally, you have that option.- More Work: Managing a short-term rental requires more effort with frequent guest turnover and maintaining high standards for reviews.As for platforms, Airbnb is popular, but you might also consider VRBO or Booking.com for short-term rentals.

I’d have to think that, at this point, 99% of Poconos homes are failing to break even every month in STRAt this point the Poconos has basically just become a market for locals, people in NYC or Philly who want a vacation home that occasionally rents out to subsidize a tiny portion of their mortgage every month.

(Although we do use automation for other things, mostly SmartThings.)They aren't well reviewed on Amazon and the like, and I get why, but once you get them running, they only need Wifi to get new codes occasionally, I have it set to wake up and check twice a day to save on battery.PM me if you have any questions on them.
