One tenant is planning to move (port) his section 8 voucher to Dallas and use it to rent my 1/2 duplex. - Can I charge him a deposit to hold until all the paperwork is transferred successfully?

The possibility of getting a family in there using a Section 8 voucher for $800 a month is good - well except for the fact that Section 8 is currently having budget difficulties.

If you're in the suburbs a housing authority voucher won't appraise for as much because there are less comps.

HUD implements the Section 8 voucher choice program via a HAP Contract.

@Mark S.Sorry I missed the earlier mention - seems like you have it mostly figured out at this point.The software I use will typically allow you to either pay via direct deposit or it will generate a voucher form that you can mail in.  

I would lean towards a voucher tenant.
