Even if there is mold up there (and there's a good chance there isn't), disposing of the damaged drywall and spraying an anti-microbial on the wood framing should be all the remediation you need.Put up some new sheetrock, paint, and you're good as new.

The previous owner was a Hoarder and I am sure probably had so much stuff piled up to the ceiling to where if their was any leak to be found, the damage would already be done....there was KILZ sprayed around numerous areas of the property (both bathrooms, kitchen underneath cabinets, in basement area underneath where kitchen is located.

1. for rentals, we use a good quality sprayer and can do a whole house in about 2 hours, one guy moving the sprayer and paint and one spraying. prep takes longer, tape off outlets, windows, lights etc. 2. for rehabs, we use a sprayer for the white ceiling, then spray the trim and doors in gloss white. we will roller the walls. on rehabs well leave the doors on and spray over the hinges, since we always install new knobs and hinges in satin or oil rubbed bronze.
