Personally I like Lombard, Wheaton, and Glen Ellyn for SFH.

Municipalities including but not limited to Albany, Lake George, Glens Falls, and Queensbury are in various stages of restricting or reviewing possible restrictions on short term rentals.

If you were in Riverside, CA I would try it for you - find someone that knows everyone at your building department.
