They'll move in and see problems and complain about the smallest, weird things.Whereas, if you wait and show it while it still smells like fresh paint and the carpets have stripes from the vacuum cleaner, in their minds the place is in great shape and they will overlook things.It's the same idea as curb appeal.

Actually, what I probably would have done would be to vacuum up the water myself when it first happened, send the bill to the landlord for reimbursement (shop vac, dehumidifier, whatever), and looked for an alternative place to live rather than stay in a house with soaking wet carpets for 6 or 7 months.
