I use this tile from Lowe's on both floors and shower walls (with a $11 sq/ft accent stripe horizontal).  

As far as the plumbing I am just taking out Horizontal metal pipe and replacing it with Pex.

In our experience the exception to this is many old - Second Empire, Victorian, Edwardian, ballon-framed houses had horizontal cross-members in the wall cavity spaces (aside from the plate at the ceiling or floor).

If you're sticking them on telephone poles, get the horizontal flutes.I agree with the comment above as well. smaller and preferably lean them against something. if you're staking them in the ground, try to lean them against a stop sign, telephone pole or something else that will shelter them a little and keep them standing...or you could use wood and get a ladder and drill screws through your sign to a telephone pole.Not that I advise it but I've seen it done in San Antonio.
