You don't necessarily have to go the YouTube route, but I would definitely get into affiliate marketing and e-commerce space.

I wasn’t pleased with the direction my career path was going, and have been doing Ecommerce in the meantime. 

There is a ton of really low treshold ecommerce things you can do, for example Amazon resaling.
