I find flips a little more risky as they are more subject to sudden changes in the market or running into some major unforeseen fix issues, there are more moving parts.

Agree with Wayne, events beyond you control, like loss of job, are excepted under occupancy rules, so long as they were unforeseen prior to the loan.
