I have been lied to on more than one occasion by contractors who claimed they were insured (workers comp) but when I looked up their license online (something you should do with anyone before you hire them) it stated they have a valid license but that they are the only employee and therefore do not have the proper insurance to manage other people.If you hire a sub that does all the work themselves that is OK but definitely exposing yourself to all sorts of trouble if you hire a GC that doesn't have proper insurance for his employees.
