Hi Jon, you could cash it - just be prepared for some innocent person (and the bank, and the cops) to chase you up asking why you're making unauthorised withdrawls from their account.The big check comes out of a victim's account - whatever you send back goes to the criminal and they're long gone when the cops are knocking on your door.

But that's protection against *civil* suits, not criminal suits.Lastly, there may be laws around acting in the capacity of certain licensed professionals like attorneys and CPAs (and no, I'm not talking about giving opinions of real estate value, etc), where adding this disclaimer is just extra insurance against any confusion about non-professional status.There is no law (that I know of) about giving out opinions on tax, legal or any other areas of expertise.
