Spray it with bleach and clean with soap and water.

I think you could proactively spray if you want.

He didn't realize that you could water it down and put it in spray bottle, so he just bought about a dozen bottles of the oil and just splashed it everywhere.But... no more mice after that.  

Because, in theory, on day 1 after closing the HVAC could die, together with the water heater having a leak, the range no longer working and the carpet having received a beautification from a dropped bucket of pink paint, sprayed all over the place.

You can purchase spray texture at any hardware store.

Spray on the surface and wait 2-3 hours, then wipe clean. 

When all else fails I recommend the Product "Ortho Home Defense" Spray everywhere around the home outside(Ant Holes by front door too!!)

@Jarred Marrow There's a lot of great books you could read; I'm currently reading the Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel.

I just spread base rock....ground is hard and if any weeds come up, the gardener just sprays them.  

Cat is now spraying as it wasn't fixed.
