In the mean time you can keep your expenses to an absolute minimum (car and phone - SGLI is 28 bucks a month for something that is nearly useless if you don’t have a family you need to support upon your death; if you put away 5% on your TSP the government will match 5% as well).

Those with real money in them (say ten grand plus) and a credible narrative (i.e. - the deal would make sense if the IRS agent wanted to put $10k in it and option grantor would do the deal with anyone, not just "financial friends") can work.
