I think you just way the risk vs reward in this situation.

I would like them to be rewarded well for giving me the opportunity, what is a fair rate for something like this?

Lower risk high reward.

It makes for less competition, and if you can tolerate the risk there is a lot of times a reward on the other end!

Live frugal and reap the rewards.  

It takes some time to teach, but developing the systems and creating employment feels very rewarding.

This will be a small sacrifice for a large reward of being able to get going on your first deal!

But, a prudent sponsor will exit sooner, to his/her own detriment, if we feel that the risk/reward is flipped.
