If I had to spend my time and money to drive over, not be productive, then listen to someone whine that the carpet isn't the same shade as the advertisement and try and reduce the rent, I would likely charge as well.

There are other HOAs that want to make sure everyone's grass is the same shade of green.

Always leaned towards lighter/ whiter colors but a darker color may hide more.

We have attached them to posts, they could inexpensively be put over a patio if they are looking for something shaded.    

My answer then would have been to stain it a darker color as @Nicole Benischeksaid.

Create an interesting walkway with spme type of pavers, not just concrete.Unless it's in horrible shape, leave the existing siding, and paint it in a bright color (it works wonders on a tiny house), and an appropriate entry door in a contrasting but complementary darker color.
